About Q8 wanting more color and pattern in the wardrobe- I select accent pieces from talented global artisan brands like https://oseiduro.com, https://www.wanderingsilk.org, https://www.shopzuri.com (their dresses button all the way down so they are incredibly versatile- I wear mine as a jacket over a t and jeans even more than as a dress), and Maiwa is wonderful too! https://maiwa.com/collections/all-clothing. Also look to your local artists as many artists are creating out of repurposed materials and use natural dye. I hope you enjoy these suggestions. I used to be a fashion rep for global brands and am very passionate about it! :)
Another great post, thanks Lee! I wanted to offer a few suggestions to Q6. I am not a professional carpenter, but I spent a year building full-time. The market for women's workwear is limited (but growing! Yay!). The most durable pants I have are Patagonia's Iron Forge Hemp Canvas Double Knee Pants. I love that the waist has a cinch adjustment, the pockets are big/functional and the double knee accommodates padding. Another go-to are REI's Trailsmith Pants (straight leg I have not tried the jogger). I have their overalls too which are the same quality but I find that I personally prefer working in separates. At the time I was on a tight budget and I had no problem finding these pieces on the company's used page (Worn Wear or Re/Supply) or Poshmark. I am interested in trying Dovetail Workwear, their whole line is designed for women. I tried Carhartt but find that the waist-hip fit was off for me. I tried on a LOT of pants to find what works best me and my working style. I think it's the best way to find workwear you'll love for a long time. I hope this is useful!
Re: clothes that cannot be worn anymore: Some recycling depots take textiles. If my items are too worn or not suitable for donation, I take it to the recycling depot. You may also have luck googling "textile recycling" plus your area.
Great advice here! A few suggestions for the question on colorful/pattern-ful clothing are: Big Bud Press, Lucy & Yak, and Lisa Says Gah. And honestly, most of my funkiest patterned clothes come from thrifting!
Thanks for answer a third round of questions, I really enjoyed reading them all. Thanks for answering the journaling question on how to start and also how it’s helped you through difficult times. I’m going to give it a go!
Thank you for this newsletter! I really like your style and it turns out we are the same height and weight, which makes visualizing your outfits on me a lot easier. I look forward to future posts.
I really enjoyed this post!! Thank you so much for the concrete advice and suggestions.
So happy to hear that Mary! Thanks for reading and letting me know. Have a lovely Sunday!
